General Information
The Department of English Language Teaching at Ufuk University was established in 2005. It has an undergraduate and graduate leading to a B.A. and M.A. degree, respectively. The academic staff consists of 2 professors, 4 assistant professors, and 4 research assistants.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts in English Language Teaching.

Admission Requirements
Students are accepted through the centrally administered entrance exam conducted by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). General admission requirements apply for both Turkish students and students of other nationalities.

Arrangements for the Recognition of Prior Learning
At Ufuk University full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at Ufuk University, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
A student is required to successfully complete the designated list of courses and meet the requirement of a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no falling grades.

Profile of the Programme
The Department of English Language Teaching has been established to fulfil the need for qualified language teachers. Therefore, via its four year undergraduate program, it aims to train English teachers that are specialized in teaching in primary and secondary schools.
In order to enhance the language proficiency of the enrolled students to the desired level of competency, the first two semesters of the program will focus on English language skills. Moreover, the students will be trained in the fields of Language Teaching Methodology, English and American Literature, Linguistics, and Educational Sciences for them to become qualified language teachers in their field.
The undergraduate program is composed of a four year program plus a year of English preparatory school language education in case they are not successful in the English language proficiency exam. Students who are successful in the language proficiency exam can directly start their four year undergraduate program.

Knows the cultural history of literature including writers from different periods and their works whose language is English (American, English), uses this knowledge in text analysis, and adapts it in language teaching.

Gains the skills to learn and apply scientific concepts and methods related to Language Teaching / Instruction.

Recognizes national and international cultures.

Gains the ability to establish a scientific connection between the information fields.

Knows the components of language: phonetics, morphology, syntax, naming, discourse, semantics, pragmatics, etc.

Reads (analyze, interpret, criticize, evaluate) English texts.

Has the knowledge, skills, behavior and responsibilities required by the teaching profession and put these knowledge and skills into practice in the classroom.

Uses technology in language teaching.

Knows Atatürk’s principles and reforms by heart.

Gains a more holistic and scientific perspective on language and evaluates and implements structural studies in language teaching based on different levels of language.

Knows and perceives first and second language acquisition theories, developmental stages and processes of mother tongue and target language, and the importance of individual differences in language acquisition.

Makes comparisons between the educational problems of different countries and interpret the current events more carefully thanks to their extensive knowledge of the national education system.

Acquires the principles and techniques of lesson planning suitable for different proficiency levels and implementing high validity and reliability measurement and evaluation methods in a theoretical and practical way.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the four year program can work as English teachers in primary and secondary education as well as having the necessary training and qualification to work as lecturers in the preparatory schools of universities.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety ofassessment methods such as quizzes, mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. In order to graduate from this undergraduate program, the students are reguired;
To succeed in all of the courses listed in the curriculum of the program by getting the grade of at least DD/S with a minimum of 240 ECTS
To have a Cumulative Grade point Average of 2.00 out of 4.00
To complete their compulsory internship in a specified duration and quality.
