Course Objectives The purpose of the course is to teach students specific methods for the translation of social sciences texts. In this respect, linguistic characteristics and the distinguishing qualities of texts from various social sciences such as social anthropology, sociology, psychology, philosophy, archeology, mythology and theology is examined. Through translation exercises of texts from various sub-disciplines of social sciences, it is aimed at developing the terminology knowledge of students and providing translation practice.
Course Content Approaches to the translation of selected texts, terminology and the importance of background information
Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of the course: 1.Students will become knowledgeable about the terminological and linguistic characteristics of social sciences texts. 2. Students will learn the methods used in translation process. 3. Students will gain practice in examining and translating social sciences texts. 4. Students will improve heir terminological knowledge on social sciences. 5. Students will improve heir reading and comprehension skills through the examination of social sciences texts.

1. Week Introduction to the course.
2. Week Definition of the social sciences field and its comparison with other fields of research. What do social anthropology, sociology, philosophy, mythology, psychology, theology study?
3. Week Reading selected articles about social sciences in Turkish.
4. Week Reading selected articles about social sciences in Turkish and introduction to the approaches
5. Week Detecting possible problems for a translator and discussion
6. Week Watching documentary about archeology and anthropology with English subtitles.
7. Week General revision of the previous weeks
