Course Objectives The aim of the course is to equip students with a general theoretical background to technical translation and to provide them with the necessary knowledge required to translate technical texts. The texts in question include simple user manuals, prospectus of medical products, engineering texts, military and law texts.
Course Content The features of technical texts, their specific terminology, translation methods used in technical translation, translation practice on scientific and technical texts.
Learning Outcomes (LO) Successfully completing this course results in the following learning outcomes: 1. Learning about technical translation and general translation theory; 2. Learning about technical translation history. 3. Acquiring terminology on technical texts; 4. Translating technical texts from source language to target language;

1. Week Introduction: Features of technical texts
2. Week Academic studies on technical translation and examining the criteria for a good translation.
3. Week Methods used in technical translation and sample translations.
4. Week Technical text: In-class study on technical specifications texts
5. Week Technical text: Translating a user's manual of a selected product.
6. Week Military text: in-class study on a manuscript from NATO or NATO-like institutions.
7. Week Military text: in-class study on a manuscript from NATO or NATO-like institutions.
8. Week Mid-term
9. Week Translation of texts on technology: in-class study on the manuscript provided by the instructor.
10. Week Translation of a patent application: in-class study on the manuscript provided by the instructor.
11. Week Translation of a text on civil engineering from English into Turkish.
12. Week Translation of a text on Physics from English into Turkish.
13. Week Translation of a text on Chemistry from English into Turkish.
