Course Objectives |
- to provide students with sufficient background about the genres of ‘poetry’ and ‘novel’
- to familiarize students with the characteristics of 20th century English and American Poetry and Novel.
- to enable students to interpret and analyze some examples of these genres.
- to make students conscious of cultural aspects of language together with linguistic knowledge
- to help the students translate literary texts.

Course Content |
This course includes discussions on the elements of poetry and novel. Students analyze and interpret some poems and two novels representing 20th century English and American Literature. Thus, students can appreciate certain literary works and can employ certain approaches to different texts with their enhanced knowledge about literary criticism and theory. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
After completing this course, students will:
• have sufficient information about the characteristics of poetry and novel.
• be able to distinguish poetry and novel from other texts
• be familiar with the elements of poetry and novel
• be able interpret and anayze poetry and novel.
• be familiar with some literary translation theories.
• be able to compare and contrast the English texts and their Turkish translations
