Course Objectives The objective of this course is to equip students with the necessary background to translate media tools such as newspapers, magazines, radio-tv, and the internet that have a unique and special language of their own by teaching the specific grammar rules and linguistic properties of media language.
Course Content Notions of press and media, press and media terminology, grammar rules and taxeme, translation of headlines and whole news reports from news agencies, newspapers, magazines, and internet sites.
Learning Outcomes (LO) Successfully completing this course results in the following learning outcomes: 1. Equipping with a general knowledge on the language of media, its terminology and translation theories; 2. Scrutinising the relationship between mass-media communication tools and their effects on society, technology and media, and culture and society; 3. Becoming skilled at analysing, writing and translating headlines and body of news reports; 4. Grasping the differences between the traditions of Turkish and foreign media (British and American); 5. Learning the ethics of media translation and journalism.
