Course Objectives |
The achievements of students who complete and succeed in this course are as follows: Students will acquire and will be able to understand the relations between words in English. Students will be able to choose and use appropriate techniques to convey the meanings of new words. Students will acquire teaching skills to teach new vocabulary effectively to their prospective students. |
Course Content |
Collocation and types of collocation. Techniques used to convey meanings of words. Using context for vocabulary teaching. Reasons why context should be used for vocabulary teaching. Euphemism. Examples of euphemism. Polysemy, homonyms, homographs. Similes. Examples of similes. Sample lesson procedure of pre-teaching vocabulary. How to check students’ understanding of the meanings of new words. Concept checking questions. Games for vocabulary teaching. How to record vocabulary in students’ notebooks. Various vocabulary recording techniques. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The students who attend and are successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings:
1. At the end of this course, students will be able to discriminate various types of words in terms of their meanings and understand relations among them.
2. Students who are prospective English teachers will be able to choose appropriate technique/techniques to convey meanings of new words.
3. Students will be able to design a lesson plan to teach vocabulary.
4. Students will be able to choose appropriate games to for their prospective students to practise vocabulary.
5. Students will be able to ask concept checking questions to check their prospective students’ understanding of the meanings of new vocabulary.
