Course Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students to learn linguistic varieties, language, culture, and society, and its relation to education.
Course Content The basic concepts related to sociolinguistics, linguistic varieties including gender, age, style, context, register, and speech functions, language, cognition, and culture, the relation between sociolinguistics and education, language change, regional and social dialects, language use and sociolinguistic competence, pidgin and creole languages
Learning Outcomes (LO) At the end of this course, students; 1) will understand the basic concepts of sociolinguistics 2) will know linguistic varieties 3) will know language variation in terms of users and uses 4) will comprehend language, cognition, and culture 5) will discuss sociolinguistics and its relation to education 6) will learn about language change 7) will have information about pidgin, creole, regional and social dialects
