Course Objectives |
The aim of this course is to introduce various Englishes in the world, the characteristics and uses of Englishes and enable students to use linguistic resources to communicate in the global domain. |
Course Content |
The concepts of World Englishes (WE), English as an International Language, and English as a Lingua Franca (EFL), Standardized English and English of inner, outer, and expanding circles, writing in Englishes, Online Englishes, Englishes of business and advertising, Globalization and its effect on WE |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
At the end of the course, students; 1)will gain a critical understanding of the fundamental concepts regarding World Englishes, and the dimensions of language variations 2) will demonstrate an awareness of Global Englishes 3) will gain the capacity of critical assessment for English varieties and online Englishes 4) will develop an ability to evaluate the relation between globalization and its impact on WEs. |
