Course Objectives |
In our country, which is located in a geography with a high disaster risk, it is necessary to present the studies that need to be carried out in an integrated manner in order to minimize disaster damages, to carry out effective and timely intervention studies and to ensure that communities affected by disasters return to their normal lives as soon as possible. Today, it has been seen that traditional disaster management system approaches focusing on post-disaster studies are not sufficient in coping with the increasing effects of disasters, and radical changes have been made in this approach, and the disaster risk management policy approach has been brought to the forefront, and significant changes have been made in the disaster management system and disaster policies. Regardless of the level/scale at which disaster management studies will be carried out or at which stage of disaster management studies will be carried out, in order to look at the event holistically and to carry out the studies more effectively and efficiently, it is absolutely necessary to know the most basic information about disaster management, to have information about Turkey's disaster management system and disaster policies and to know how the system works at national (central) and local levels. |
Course Content |
In this course; the most basic information about disaster management and all stages of disaster management, studies to be done, application examples, historical development of disaster management system, Turkey's disaster management system, disaster management committees established and disaster management system at local level, the place of important public institutions and organizations in the disaster management system, their duties and responsibilities, examples of disaster management systems from the world and international disaster management policies, information about disaster management policies in Turkey will be given. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The students who complete the course successfully will acquire the following:
LO-1. Learning the basic concepts in disaster management and extraordinary situations, understanding the difference between crisis, crisis management, emergency management, and disaster management. LO-2: Defining disaster management and its stages, learning what needs to be done in these stages.
LO-2. Learning the historical development of the disaster management system
LO-3. Learning the institutional, local, and national disaster management system structure in our country
LO-4. Learning the disaster and emergency management systems in developing countries
LO-5. Understanding national and international disaster policies, learning and evaluating the developments that guide these policies.
LO-6. Determining and analyzing the transformation points in Turkey's disaster policies. |
