Course Objectives The aim of this course is to teach psychiatric nursing based on the understanding of human and human behaviors to evaluate individuals, families and society who have impaired healthy / mental health, in the light of developmental, biopsychosocial changes affecting mental health, and to protect, develop and improve mental health.
Course Content Mental Health and Nursing related to preventive, curative and rehabilitative concepts, theories and practices of learning, interpretation, application and implementation skills to gain the students' feelings, thoughts, behavior and interpersonal skills become aware, in practice systematically with the information that the nursing process transfer to be able to contain.
Learning Outcomes (LO) Students who successfully complete this course and related to the field of mental health nursing are gains to be obtained;; Students who successfully complete this course and related to the field of mental health nursing are gains to be obtained;; LO-1. Define the concept of human and mental health, the dynamics that affect human mental health, and the roles of the psychiatric nurse in protecting mental health. LO-2. Know the concepts of mental health, illness and protection; discuss the importance, protection, maintenance and improvement of mental health in the world and our country, and the responsibilities of the nurse in this field. LO-3. Know the normal and abnormal behavior patterns of human and the factors that affect these behaviors. LO-4. Use therapeutic communication skills when interviewing a patient with a mental disorder, LO-5. Observe the patient with mental disorder and knows the importance of writing an observation report. LO-6. Do "psychosocial nursing assessments" to help the patients with physical illness, which experiencing the emotional problems of the illness and life crises. LO-7. Evaluate the groups that are at risk in terms of mental health in society and plan and implement nursing interventions by evaluating the individuals' mental health together with their families for protection, improvement and rehabilitation. LO-8. Know the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in the treatment of mental disorders. LO-9. Knows and apply ethical principles in psychiatric nursing.

1. Week Concept of mental health, history, general principles about mental health, concepts, neurobiological and psychodynamic bases of behavior, defense mechanisms, mental health development stages and personality development
2. Week Psychiatric State Examination, Psychiatric Illness symptoms, Principles of patient-nurse relationship and psychiatric interview, observation and history taking, Diagnosis and classification in mental disorders, Therapeutic Environment, Patient Acceptance and Discharge Process
3. Week Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders (movie- a beautiful mind), Mood disorders
4. Week Neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders (Anxiety disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Trauma and stressor-related disorders, Dissociative disorders and Somatoform disorders)
5. Week Personality disorders, Physiological dysfunctions related to mental factors (Eating disorders, Sleep disorders)
6. Week Organic Mental Disorders, Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison Nursing (Psychological Disorders in Physical Disorders)

8. Week Therapies in mental disorders (general principles, drug therapy, somatic treatment methods, psychotherapies)
