Course Objectives The aim of this course is to teach the main roles and functions of the public health nurse specific to the practice areas via focusing on the health promotion on the basis of individual, family, and community in line with the notions and theories related to the primary health services.
Course Content This course investigates the process of nursing services needed for the protection and promotion of the bio-psycho-social health of the individual, family, and community, home care of the patient and reintegration into the community, along with the adjustment of negative conditions affecting health in the context of primary health services, and enables this process to be put into practice.
Learning Outcomes (LO) The students who completed the course successfully will acquire the followings: LO -1. Explains the history of public health nursing. LO -2. Explains the philosophy of public health nursing. LO -3. Counts the changing and improving roles and functions of the public health nurse. LO -4. Assesses the community and the living environments where he/she served for. LO -5. Summarizes the health system and its organization. LO -6. Associates the reflections of health policies to the primary health services. LO -7. Associates the structure and functions, health status and affecting factors of the family. LO -8. Plans a health education effectively via using the principles of health education, LO -9. Organizes the health screenings. LO -10. Interprets the relationship between population, environment, and health. LO -11. Assesses the health of individuals according to life courses (infancy, childhood, adulthood, senility) and genders. LO -12. Counts the common risk factors of premature deaths due to the non-communicable diseases and the importance of controlling these risk factors. LO -13. Explains the responsibilities of the public health nurse for the prevention and control of the communicable diseases. LO -14. Explains his/her opinion on the significance and priority of health needs of disadvantaged groups. LO -15. Classifies the unusual disasters frequently seen in our country and the responsibilities of the public health nurse associated with the issue. LO -16. Counts the factors affecting the community’s mental health. LO -17. Interprets the importance of health literacy on the community health promotion issue.
