Course Objectives The aim of this course is to enable the student to compare and evaluate different trends, approaches and theories in the field of critical applied linguistics and to gain knowledge about applied areas of language such as second language acquisition, language learning and teaching methods, and semiotics.
Course Content This course covers topics such as grammar development, vocabulary, semantics, pragmatic language use, phonetics, phonology and discourse structures.
Learning Outcomes (LO) Students who take this course and successfully complete it: 1. The basic approaches and theories in critical applied linguistics can be outlined. 2. They will be able to compare and explain the theories regarding second language acquisition. 3. They will be able to compare language teaching methods. 4. They will be able to evaluate the concepts of language planning and linguistic colonialism using today's applications.
