Course Objectives The aim of this course is to enable prospective English teachers to understand the distinctions between approach, method and technical concepts in foreign language teaching and the importance of these concepts in teaching English.
Course Content The meaning of learning and teaching English; The purpose and basic principles of teaching English; History of teaching English; reflections of learning and teaching approaches on teaching English; Basic skills in teaching English; in-class application examples; Current trends and problems in teaching English; Components of effective English teaching; A social, cultural and economic perspective on teaching English.
Learning Outcomes (LO) At the end of this course, students will: 1) Demonstrate an understanding of the reflection of the basic principles underlying language learning and teaching methods on English learning and teaching approaches and the appropriate use of the techniques used for this purpose in the language learning and teaching process. 2) Critically evaluates the historical backgrounds of methods and approaches in language teaching, the reasons for their emergence, and their reflections on today's teaching techniques and methods. 3) Critically analyzes the place of English learning and teaching in the 21st century from a social, cultural and economic perspective. 4) Critically evaluates historical developments and approaches in English language teaching and their reflections on today's practices. 5) Can state his own teaching approach and philosophy by synthesizing current English teaching practices in Turkey.
