Course Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students to learn about language varieties, language, culture and society and its relationship with education.
Course Content Basic concepts related to sociolinguistics, gender, age, style, context, register and speech functions, linguistic diversity such as language, cognition and culture, the relationship between sociolinguistics and education, language change, regional and social dialects, language use and sociolinguistic proficiency, pidgin and creole languages
Learning Outcomes (LO) At the end of this course, students; 1) understand the basic concepts of sociolinguistics 2) know linguistic varieties 3) know linguistic diversity in terms of users and uses 4) understand language, cognition and culture 5) discuss sociolinguistics and its relationship with education 6) learn about language change 7) learn about pidgin, creole, regional and will have knowledge about social dialects
