Course Objectives |
The aim of the course is for students to gain strategies for acquiring a second foreign language by underlining how children and very young children acquire their native language. At the same time, it is aimed to clarify the points that need to be taken into consideration when teaching English to this group, together with classroom management and material preparation techniques. |
Course Content |
Foreign language teaching course to children, differences between early age language learners (5-12 years old) and learners at other ages (in terms of language structure, skills and learning of sub-skills) and misconceptions about early age learners; early age learners' learning styles (visual, auditory and affective) and strategies (e.g. metacognition, cognition, socioaffective); developing activities (e.g. puzzles, stories, games and simulations), audio-visual tools (e.g. pictures, real objects, cartoons, puppets and songs) for teaching vocabulary, language skills and language structure; selection, sequencing, material adaptation and evaluation of teaching points appropriate to the language levels and cognitive and affective developments of the learners; It enables students to acquire classroom management techniques that they will need for early learner classes. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The achievements of students who complete and succeed in this course are as follows; LO-1 To be able to follow English lessons with groups of students aged between 5 and 12 in nurseries and primary schools. LO-2 To be able to provide second language acquisition by preparing the necessary materials and using effective communication techniques with this group of students. |
