Course Objectives The course aims to answer the questions e.g. what are modern and modernization? how did modernity emerge? how has modern society evolved? what are the different perspectives on modernization? It aims to give information to students on these issues equip them with an ability to make an analysis on these issues in a comparative way.
Course Content The concept of modernization that is essential to understand contemporary world is examined and discussed with various perspectives in a critical and historical way. The course examines the views of the scholars like Weber, Marx, Durkheim, Parsons, Lerner, Frank, Baran, Wallerstein, who analyze the processes of modernization focusing on modern, modernity, modernization, dependency, world system, and so on. It also examines postmodernism and multiple modernities.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1- Learning the basic concepts on modernization. 2- Developing the ability of making analysis on different modernization theories. 3- Developing the capacity of applying these information and analysis on contemporary world.
