Course Objectives Introducing the EU concepts, teaching the legal and organisational structure and analyzing EU's foundation and enlargement purposes. Also analyzing one of Turkey's goals, membership to the EU and its status , problems and development.
Course Content This course mainly analyses two topics: (1) main definition, formation, targets and institutional structure of the European Union; (2) Relations between Turkey and the European Union.
Learning Outcomes (LO) The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings; 1) Understanding the formation of the EU, its goals and its operation. 2) Understanding and analyzing the legal and institutional structure of EU. 3) Grasping how the institutions of Turkey to reconcile with these institutions. 4) - Developing decision making skills for Turkey on Turkey's membership to EU.

1. Week Understanding the European concept: definition, geographical and historical boundaries,
2. Week Definition of European identity; Europeanness, the EU and the development and of the birth of the idea.
3. Week Establishment, evolution and expansion of the European Union,
4. Week Religious and cultural evolution, and the bodies of the European Union
5. Week EU Commission, EU Council, European Parliament, the Court of Justice, the EU Court of Auditors and the EU Central Bank
6. Week Main sources of EU Law: Regulation, Directive, Decision and Opinion, International Treaties
7. Week EU Budget and Resources: budget revenues, budget expenditures, decision-making mechanisms
8. Week EU common policies: economic policies, social and cultural policies
9. Week The EU enlargement policy and Turkey's membership application.
10. Week The EU's social, environmental policy: nature, environment, health, sustainable use of natural resources
11. Week Use of the EU's common currency, trade policies: foreign and security policy
12. Week Introduction of the conditions and criteria for full membership in the EU, the Copenhagen Criteria
13. Week The Constitution of the EU; Lisbon Treaty
