Course Objectives To provide a broader view of the Turkish foreign policy implementations; a better understanding of the applied strategies. To separate the foreign policy time table into smaller time periods and identify the role of the major events, changes and effects at work within each period.
Course Content The course covers the historical background of the Turkish Foreign Policy including the impact of the changing political environment and the new global trends effecting the policy formation in Turkey. Different phases of the Turkish Foreign policy is analized to determine the dominant factors, global trends or changes. Studies include the analysis of political motives behind major decisions and the methods to improve the foreighn policy implementaıon and strategies in the coming years.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1- To identify & understand major factors, concerns and security issues effecting formation of Turkish Foreign policy. 2- To compare and to understand the use of the hard and soft power instruments in making of Turkish foreign policy 3- To be able to analyze the crises and political developments of current Turkish foreign policy and try to determine the most appropriate methods and solutions for crises management.

1. Week The foundation and the determining factors of the Turkish Foreign policy
2. Week Understanding the fundamental aims, interests and the national targets
3. Week Turkish modernisation and Westernisation phases and efforts.
4. Week The transit and transformation of the government and society from an empire to a republic system.
5. Week The phases and problems of the integration of the new Turkish government wtih the Western world.
6. Week Balance of Power policies; policies of neutrality and the World War II
7. Week The foreign policy of Atatürk era and the major implementations until 1940s
8. Week Inönü era and the World War II period
9. Week The new global trends and the changing political formations
10. Week Compatibilty of the princle of( Peace at home, Peace in the World) and the bi-polar global diplomacy.
11. Week Cooparation and co-laboration with USA and the Western States: period of varios pacts and treaties
12. Week NATO, USA and Turkish politics and alliement of efforts, the Korean War.
13. Week The Turkish foreign policy during 1950-1960 period and relatıons with Middle Eastern counties and Europe.
