Course Objectives Objectives of the course is to expose how global politics was formed retrospectively, which flows of thought influenced Europe, and the role played by Europe within these processes, the fact that role and power of Europe do not stem from geography or even politics, but conception and prodence of thought.
Course Content Political history of Europe is analysed on the basis of position and identity of Europe; and role of Europe in configuration of global politics is interpreted.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1. Target of the course is to inform students about role of Europe in construction and development of global politics; when and in which conditions this role transform into power in comprehensive manner. 2. Another topic covered in the course is Turkey's European boundaries and Turkey's place in the identity of Europe. In this sense, historical roots of racist stereotypes targetting Turkey especially through claims on Armenian Genocide are examined and ways of surpassing these claims by means of knowledge of historical and legal realities are studied. 3. Acquisitions of the course are measured through evaluations on discussion points taking place in the beginning of lecture notes forwarded to students online. 4. Just studying before midterm and final examinations is not sufficient for the students to reach the goals and targets of the course. It is important for the students to attend the course sessions carefully and participate in the class discussions.
