Course Objectives Historical developments, and social, economic and cultural structures in in which states and other political subjects take place – that constitute the content of the course are analysed in multi-dimensional manner. Another aim of the course is to analyse global power struggles taking place in diverse regions in the light of foreign policies of super power. Furthermore, scrutiny of Turkey's political attitude towards those power struggles constitute another objective of the course. Also, analyses on Cold War era, experienced throughout the twentieth century, formation of uni-polar international political system and mechanism of this system through considering historical, economic, social and cultural factors comprise another goal of the course.
Course Content Political History, in general, analyses the relations among political structures, especially the states, and other political processes throughout the history. The discipline of Political History is studied by means of two courses and Political History II constitutes the second one. In this way, political events, change processes and struggles taking place in the twentieth century in global scale, through concentrating on especially the Western World, constitute the basis of the course content. In general manner Political History II deals with the following topics: World War I, interwar period , causes and effects of World War II, Cold War period, position of Turkey in Cold War epoch and relations between Turkey and diverse regions during Cold War, end of Cold War with dissolution of the USSR, emergence of current uni-polar international political system and relations between Turkey and Western World in today's international political conjuncture.
Learning Outcomes (LO) The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings; 1- Analysing procedure of emergence of current international political system by means of main concepts and research techniques of Political History field. 2- Examining political developments taking place recently in global scale especially in the context of the twentieth century by aid of economic, social and cultural parameters. 3- Getting capability of scrutinizing conflicts of interest occuring in different regions of the world since the beginning of the twentieth century. 4- Having ability of making foresights about future of international political system with scientific equipment provided by the field of Political History. 5- Having knowledge on Turkey's position in global political structure and Turkey's possible foreign policy options
