Course Objectives To help the students to offer solutions by considering the reflections of the historical and current events developing around Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean to the present and the future, based on their effects on the region. To approach the events from an objective point of view by touching on the untold subjects of history.
Course Content The history of Cyprus and the geopolitical, geostrategic and economic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean will be covered.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1. To have knowledge about Cyprus. 2. To create resources for students who want to study in this field by learning about the socio-economic and political activities of the Eastern Mediterranean and its hinterland.

1. Week Introduction, course description and explanation.
2. Week Early history of Cyprus and the Ottoman conquest.
3. Week The Turk rule (1571-1878).
4. Week The British colonial period (1878-1959).
5. Week 1945-1960 ENOSIS-TAKSIM and the Republic of Cyprus as a result of International Guarantor Negotiations.
6. Week Greece, Megali Idea, and Turkish Resistance against the EOKA Terror with TMT.
7. Week The Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974 and the establish of the TRNC (1983).
8. Week MIDTERM
9. Week The search for an international solution to the Cyprus Issue and the ANNAN Planı.
10. Week Eastern Mediterranean history and geography.
11. Week Important developments in the Middle East and the region during the Cold War and present.
12. Week Energy and trade policies in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean: Turkish-Greek conflict.
13. Week The Arab Spring, terrorism and its impacts on the region.
