Course Objectives The goals of the course are to increase the level of knowledge and awareness about the legal status of the child, the fundamental rights and freedoms of the child, the protection of the child against abuse, the right to participate in the legal processes and the protection rights of the child, based on the regulations on children's rights in national and international law and other regulations concerning the well-being, freedom and health of the child. ; to clarify the functions and duties of people working in the field of Guidance and Psychological Counselling in the protection of children's rights.
Course Content This course examines the status of the child in Law, the rights of the child, the principles and procedures of the protection of the child in different areas of law, in the context of international and national law. It also sets out the issues to be considered in determining the best interests of the child and the responsibilities of the experts involved in the protection of the child.
Learning Outcomes (LO) The students who attends and are successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings: 1. Ability to distinguish the concept of child in law, the basic concepts in terms of protection of the child and children's rights from similar concepts. 2. Ability to reason about the concept of the best interest of the child, to determine the methods on how to determine the best interests of the child in a concrete case, 3. Internalizing the scope and meaning of children's rights as human rights, 4. Learning the legal meaning and consequences of child abuse and neglect, which courts and units will take measures to protect the child, and by what methods, 5. Learning the position, function and obligations of social workers in the judicial and administrative processes regarding the protection of the child.
