Course Objectives |
The aim of the course is to enable students to understand and articulate the basic concepts of information technology management. Within the scope of this course, students will develop the ability to evaluate and apply information technology to solve common business problems. They will also gain the competence to propose and defend effective solutions to business problems and design a database application in this context. Finally, the course will provide an opportunity to discuss the ethical aspects of using information technology in organisations and governance issues. |
Course Content |
This course aims to provide a comprehensive survey of information systems and provides students with an introduction to information systems and dominant supporting technologies. The course content emphasises reprographics (printing, copying, micrographic processes), computing and communications. The focus is on applications such as library/information systems management, technical services, reference services and document delivery systems. In addition, conceptual, theoretical, historical, social, economic and ethical issues related to the development, deployment and management of dominant information systems technologies are addressed. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts of management information systems (MIS), information systems (IS) and electronic commerce (e-commerce).
2. Explore tools and techniques related to the management information systems process that align with organisational demands and needs.
3. Describe the life cycle process of developing an information system to support organisational operations.
4. Describe how organisations use and manipulate information systems to meet organisational needs and objectives.
5. Demonstrate the ability to plan, design, develop and evaluate information systems using different approaches.
6. Describe the role of information systems in influencing decision making.
7. Develop the ability to collect and manage useful data.
8. Gain the ability to evaluate how businesses use information systems. |
