Course Objectives The objective of this course is to introduce students to the historical development of international trade and its key concepts. The course aims to help students understand the changes in the economic, political, and social dynamics from the origins of international trade to the present. It will also provide students with an understanding of the structure of today's global trade system. The course covers trade theories, international trade policies, the impact of trade on economic growth, and current trade issues.
Course Content This course will cover the historical evolution of international trade, ancient trade routes, mercantilism, free trade and protectionism policies, the impact of globalization on trade, modern trade theories, and contemporary international trade regimes. Additionally, the institutional frameworks of international trade (such as the World Trade Organization) and the relationship between trade and economic development will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1. To be able to explain the historical development process of international trade and the important turning points in this process. 2. To be able to define the basic theories and concepts of international trade. 3. To be able to analyze the effects of international trade policies on economic growth and development. 4. To be able to understand the functioning of the modern international trade system and the roles of the actors in this system. 5. To be able to evaluate the relationship between international trade and the globalization process. 6. To be able to discuss current trade issues and policies from a critical perspective.
