Course Objectives |
The focus of the course is child psychopathology from a developmental perspective, recognizing that pathology expresses itself in different ways at different ages and stages of development. With this perspective, Students to the major issues in the assessment, classification, and treatment of childhood and adolescent pschological disorders. |
Course Content |
This course explores child psychopathology from a developmental perspective, recognizing that pathology expresses itself in different ways at different ages and stages of development. Concepts such as risk and resilience and early predictors of better and worse outcome will be integrated with a review of the major types of psychopathology seen in children and adolescents. Specific disorders to be reviewed include: developmental disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, pervasive developmental disorder and eating disorders. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1- Utilize a biopsychosocial perspective to explore children’s normal and abnormal developmental
processes.
2- Examine how children’s psychological disorders are currently conceptualized, assessed, and treated
in clinical settings.
3- demonstrate knowledge the relevance of developmental factors as they are related to the manifestations of these disorders across the life span
4- demonstrate knowledge of current research findings relevant to these disorders
5- demonstrate an understanding of the relevance of factors to the development, diagnosis, clinical outcome and treatment of these conditions
