Master in Public Law


General Information

"Master in Public Law" Program was founded in the 2012-2013 academic year and consists of courses involving public law topics. Students can only complete this program by writing a thesis.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Public Law.

Admission Requirements

Students who wants to apply for Master Program in Public Law should have at least 4-year bachelor's degree. The applicants who hold a Bachelor's Degree and willing to enroll in the Master's programme may apply to the Directorate of the Graduate School with the documents: 1-Sufficient score (at least 55 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or GRE Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score equivalent to ALES score of 55. 2-English proficiency (at least 50 out of 100 from the Profiency Exam conducted by Ufuk University Foreign Language Department, or at least 50 out of 100 from ÜDS (University Language Examination conducted by OSYM) or TOEFL or IELTS score equivalent to UDS score of 50. 

Candidates will fill out the ALES certificates, the graduation diplomas, the achievement grades which they have taken from the undergraduate courses, the approved documents indicating the graduation grade averages, the other registration related information and apply to the institute directorate until the deadline stated in the application form. Registration of candidates is conducted by the Directorate of Institute of Social Sciences.

The candidates fulfilling the criteria outlined above are invited to interwiev. The assessment for admission to masters programs is based on: 50% of ALES, 25% of academic success in the undergraduate programme (cumulative grade point average (CGPA) ) and 25% of interview grade. The results of the evaluation are announced by the Directorate of Institute of Social Sciences.

Arrangements for the Recognition of Prior Learning

The rules for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree programme in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Programme at UFUK University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program. 

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to get the Master's Degree with Thesis, the master thesis must be successfully completed with 24 credits of local credits and a "seminar" study without credits. The seminar course and thesis work are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful according to the local credit system. In this program, students must have a minimum of 120 ECTS credits in the program with a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 GPA. In the thesis program, the student has to register to thesis study every semester from the beginning of the third semester at the latest.

Profile of the Programme

It is aimed to improve the ability to legal reasoning by reinforcing the basic legal theories and concepts in the Public Law Master's Program and to provide the ability to solve the problems encountered in practice more easily.

The graduates of the Master’s Programme have opportunities of employment of in a variety of public agencies, national and international companies and organisations, as well as academic institutions.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully completed the Master's Degree may apply to Ph.D. programmes in the same or in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are required to take a mid-term and final examination for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade and the final examination grade with the contribution of 40% and 60% respectively. To pass any course, a student must receive at least 60 out of 100. Students whose Cum GPA are at least 2.50 are considered successful. Students whose Cum GPA lower than 2.50 (CB) must retake the courses that they had CC grades.
