Course Objectives |
Families approaches examines the family from theoretical, evidence informed and practical
perspectives. Much of the scientific information about families has been collected in western
societies. Some contrasts with other societies will also be made where studies are available

Course Content |
Generally, this course will provide students with a background in family approaches and an opportunity to learn about various theoretical, conceptual, practical, and empirical family issues. The major contents of this course includes topics of family systems, theoretical and empirical literature associated with family in the larger social structure, cultural influences, marriage and family development, , marriage and family dysfunctions, parenting, child rearing methods, attachment, divorce, single parenting, remarriage, aging and family dysfunctions, sibling relations, communication within family and families with special situations. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings;
1- To acquire various family developmental processes
2- To apply theoretical ideas to real life
3- To gain information associated with family relationships based on perspectives that are diverse and multi-cultural including an emphasis on race, ethnicity, gender, class, age & environment.
4- To illustrate typical problems and some suggested solutions in the marriage and family context
