Course Objectives This course aims to deliver an understanding of the Republic and history by evaluating the Turkish Revolution in the Ataturk Period and beyond with its political, cultural and economical aspects.
Course Content History of Turkish Revolution and Ataturk’s Principles-II, reviews the establishment of the Turkish Republic, the Principles of Ataturk, the Turkish Revolution and the political developments after the Ataturk period.
Learning Outcomes (LO) The student, successfully attending this course will; 1. Gain information on the proclamation of the Republic and the political developments in its first years. 2. Learn the difference between the Sultanate and the Caliphate and will evaluate their abolishment. 3. Learn about the multi party explorations. 4. Evaluate the reasons and outcomes of incidents directed against the Republic; such as the Menemen and Sheikh Said Rebellions. 5. From the Ottoman Empire to the Republic; comparatively learn about the Turkish Modernization. 6. Comprehend the reasons and outcomes of the Legal Revolution. 7. Learn about the economical developments in the Ataturk Period. 8. Learn about the revolutions in the fields of education and culture and their impacts. 9. Evaluate the Foreign Policy principles in the Ataturk Period. 10. Learn about Ataturk's integral and fundamental principles. 11. Evaluate political, economical and social developments after the Ataturk Period. 12. Learn about reasons and outcomes of World War II.
