Course Objectives |
This course aims disease etiology to be understood at molecular level by explaining the chemical structure of living organisms and chemical events that happen in the living being throughout its life. |
Course Content |
This course provides students general knowledge about the main structures of biomolecules such as Protein, Carbohydrate, Lipid, and Nucleic Acid. Makes students comprehend how the metabolism of these molecules occurs. Teaches how metabolic integrity is maintained among these molecules. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of the semester will acquire the following:
LO1. Defines the composition and properties of the biological membranes
LO2. Explain carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism
LO3. It defines the properties of enzymes, how they catalyze biochemical reactions, and how enzymes located in cells and organelles show activity according to their location.
LO4. Evaluates the normal level of electrolytes in the blood and changes in normal pH
LO5. Classifies hormones according to their chemical structures and explains their effects.
