Course Objectives The aim of this course is to explain that student can use the knowledge and perspective of psychiatric nursing principles, standards and roles in the application, training and research activities for healthy and sick individual's needs, according to the theoretical bases of the psychiatric nursing and lifelong.
Course Content The contents of this course consist of theoretical foundations of psychiatric nursing, psychiatric nursing basic and advanced standards of care, patient compliance, rehabilitation, health education, counseling and assistance skills, crisis and crisis intervention, anger and stress management, community-based care.
Learning Outcomes (LO) 1. Can explain the history and theoretical foundations of psychiatric nursing. 2. Can be able to list the basic and advanced standards of care of psychiatric nursing. 3. Pays attention to the treatment methods used in psychiatry and nurse responsibilities in practice. 4.Knows the therapeutic communication, counseling and assistance skills, creates the therapeutic environment. 5. Evaluates comprehensively the data about the individual, family and society to which he/she provides health services. 6. Develops strategies and policies in the field of Psychiatric Nursing. 7. Observes the rights of the mentally ill individual as a patient, understands the importance of ethical principles for the individual. 8.Plans the practice and research of psychiatric nursing through lifelong learning within the framework of scientific and ethical values.

3. Week Psychiatric schools and trends (Structuralism, Functionalism, Behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, Psychological analysis (psychoanalysis), Humanistic psychology, Cognitive psychology, Psychobiology)
4. Week Care standards in psychiatric nursing and basic and advanced roles
5. Week Therapeutic communication
6. Week Therapeutic milieu
7. Week Counseling and helping skills
8. Week Psychiatric treatment methods and responsibilities of the psychiatric nurse
9. Week Concept of care in psychiatric nursing, adaptation to patient's illness, rehabilitation, health education

12. Week Mental health policies in Turkey, the transition to community-based mental health services
