Course Objectives This course aims to provide essential background in the area of language testing, specifically in second language testing. Questions that are addressed relate to test preparation, administration, and evaluation. Additionally, it provides students with knowledge of basic concepts of testing and characteristics of language tests, ability to evaluate tests and test results, and an understanding of test development procedures. Throughout the course there will be discussions of officially administered tests and their ramifications for the educational system.
Course Content (a) To enhance participants’ understanding of major issues and concepts in language testing and assessment theory and practices (b) To enable them to comment on and contribute to the design of test instruments and assessment procedures used in their schools (c) To raise their awareness of good assessment practices in local and international educational contexts
Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to: LO1 - understand the relationship between teaching and assessment LO2 - critically evaluate test/assessment instruments LO3 - understand the main purposes of assessment and main types of assessment procedures
