Course Objectives The purpose of this course is, to inform the students from health institutions on what is performance, peformance criterias, performance management and improvement strategies.
Course Content The main issue in this course is the performance management in health care organizations
Learning Outcomes (LO) The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings; 1- will be able to define vision and mission for any health instituion, 2- will be able to know about dimensions, management and enhancement of performance, 3- will be able to apply performance measurement techniques to health care institutions, 4- will be able to notice the importance of ethics in health care institutions.

1. Week Meet, learn the purpose of selecting the program, information about programs and practices
2. Week What is organization? How to define the mission? What is vision? How to define the vision? Discussion of the definition of various health institutions’ mission and vision.
3. Week Historical development of management approaches and effects on development of performance
4. Week What is performance? Why is it important? What are the performance criteria and how are they measured? (Effectiveness, Efficiency),
5. Week What are the performance criteria and how are they measured? – Cont..(Good Governance, Productivity, Quality, Transparency, Accountability, Equity, ect.), What is good governance?
6. Week What is leadership? What are the types of leadership? What is the relationship between corporate performance and leadership?
7. Week What is the self assessment? Who can apply? Implementation phases? Techniques of self assessment (MBNQA, EFQM, CAF). Examples of application
8. Week MID TERM
9. Week What is Benchmarking? Why benchmarking? What are the types of benchmarking? Examples of application.
10. Week Approaches to measuring individual performance. What is the relationship of organizational performance? What is 360 degree performance appraisal? Health sector practices
11. Week What is TQM? What are the principles of TQM? Implementation phases. What are the difficulties encountered in applications of TQM in health sector? Process analysis, process management, Problem Solving Techniques-Quality Circles (QCC), brainstorming, Pareto Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, Scatter Chart, Frequency Distribution, Histograms, etc..).
12. Week What is ethics in healthcare institutions? What are the ethical violations? What can be said about health ethics in the perspective of performance management?
13. Week What is the PATH project? How to Apply? What is the level of implementation of the project in Turkey?
14. Week What is balanced scorecard? How to apply? What is the logical flow between criteria? Examples of application.
