Course Objectives |
The aim of the course is to present the materials development techniques based on the technological development and the materials developed in English Language Teaching. Furthermore, textbooks selected based on discussions on textbook review criteria are analyzed by students. |
Course Content |
Principles and theories of the design of ELT materials (eg. selection, adaptation, development and evaluation) and basic views for and opposing on the use of textbooks; format related to the selection of course materials; language proficiency of students, learnability, user-friendliness, cultural content, relevancy of communicative interaction and language use, real-life material that helps students communicate with one another and the teacher, material adaptation and development for language teaching, adaptation of textbook based on certain learning needs and teaching environments, appropriate managing of teacher candidates’ own teaching materials and supportive materials, students level, materials for the needs and environment of the present school, evaluation of the materials. |
Learning Outcomes (LO) |
The students who attended the course and were successful at the end of semester will acquire the followings;
LO1 – to know and compare the theories and principles of the design of ELT materials (eg. selection, adaptation, development and evaluation)
LO2 – to examine the relation between language use and format related to the selection of course materials; language proficiency of students, learnability, user-friendliness, cultural content, relevancy of communicative interaction and work on examples
LO3 – to adopt and develop materials for language teaching, adopt textbook materials based on certain learning needs and learning environments, appropriate managing of teacher candidates’ own teaching materials and supportive materials, examine materials based on students level, needs and the present school environment
